I was invited to the meeting Susie holds in Santa Barbara. I was intrigued to learn more about her multi-phasic hormone dosing and to hear directly from the women on the protocol about their results.
That meeting had a significant impact upon me and greatly influenced my approach in my practice. Over and over I heard from women how much healthier they were, how their menopausal symptoms had disappeared, how their sleep improved, how their libido improved and moreover, how much their satisfaction in life increased. It was, therefore, very empowering to be in the room with women on the protocol and to witness this drastic health improvement. Susies commitment to the health of women is quite apparent. Women on this protocol become actively involved in maintaining their health. They write down their symptoms and relate it to their cycles. They apply natural hormones based on the day of their cycle. This participation in health is another important aspect of naturopathic medical philosophy. We encourage our patients to be sensitive to their health and to actively participate in its improvement. In addition, we are trained to recognize and respect the inter connectedness of symptoms and, in so doing, we are able to treat the whole person. The ultimate goal of the naturopathic doctor is to improve the overall health of the patient so that future disease can be prevented. The role of an ND is to facilitate the process of restoring balance in the lives of our patients. This often means something quite different for each patient. Our philosophy includes the following concepts: The healing power of nature First do no harm Identify and treat the cause Treat the whole person Doctor as teacher Prevention
