In May and June of 2005 I bought 6 or 7 books on bio-identical hormones.  T.S. Wiley's, "Sex, Lies and Menopause" was included in my selections.
Now I tell all my many female relatives and anyone who will stop a minute and listen to me that this book is my hormone bible.
I extol the hope of recapturing new life in our female bodies and minds by using  transdermal estradiol and progesterone creams prepared at a compounding pharmacy.

Nearly clearing the hormone shelf in the bookstore was my effort to empower myself so I could face my health care individuals and ask confidently for bio-identical hormones which I had read about on the net.
I echoed Suzanne Summers in her book "The Sexy Years when I told the younger-than-my-son gynecologist, "I want my sex drive back." I hardened my will, made my face like granite and said, " I want bio-identical hormones, as are spoken about in the books I brought in the beach bag at my feet."
"You can have it all.", was his reply.
Unfortunately my health plan would only prescribe hormone pills, a .5 mg dose  of estradiol (Estrace) and a 100 mg cap of progesterone, called Prometrium.  He prescribed a vaginal estradiol (Estrace) cream.
I left his examining room thinking, "I guess that is better than what my primary care person offered when she refused me bio-identical hormones, saying, "Not with your family history of breast cancer...."
What a piddling dose of hormones I was offered.  The standard-of-care had me in a bind of death and more death.
     What was I to do?
I got on the World-Wide-Web.  I found an overseas pharmacy that sold pump bottles of estradiol gel for about  $30.00 a pop with NO prescription needed.
The same site sold 100 mg Prometrium caps for about the same price I was paying at my care facility.
I know this was not the Wiley Protocol.  I did not call it that.  I just continued my research towards the day I was 65 and could change my health plan.  I began to rub the estradiol gel onto my inner arms and thighs in a monthly rhythmically accelerating and decelerating daily dosing method, morning and night.
The 100 mg Prometrium white caps I bit open by the dozens over the days and evenings, rubbing the sweet contents onto my overgrown breasts and nearly hairless underarms using Emeritas' 2-3% over-the-counter progesterone cream as a transdermal carrier.  The Crinone vaginal progesterone, also ordered from overseas I used as a fill-in when I wanted to make sure I was getting enough, up here and down there.
I had quite a bulging kit.
Dr Uzzi Reiss' book, "Natural Hormone Balance" I used as a guide as to how I would and could FEEL to help myself adjust my dosages.
As a matter of fact the appendix 1 in your "Sex, Lies and Menopause" was my faithful guide as to how many pumps of estradiol gel to use daily and how many 100 mg Prometrium caps to smooth on for one half of my cycle.
In a few weeks I had a short period after about 10 years of no bleeding at all.
Today I am in the middle of a 4 day period and feeling very hopeful to get a full 5 day period with The Wiley Protocol.

Through my menopause I took no help hormone-wise.  Instead I took standard vitamins, did Yoga and consumed a few bottles of those Chinese pills and elixirs from health food stores.
In fact, other than one Pap smear at a Women's clinic in my 40's I did not see any kind of a Doctor, lucky me, until 2004 when I quit smoking.
After the great smoke-out day in November I awoke in the morning, THE NEXT DAY unable to get out of bed.  I had vertigo, nausea, ringing in my ears.
My health plan had no ides what had happened to me.  They did all the standard tests; MRI, bone density, mammograms, and ear tests.  I was prescribed antibiotics, steroids, and antihistamines for a possible ear infection.
I lost the hearing in my right ear.
I was clearly a mess.  Except I had no brain tumor, my bones were great and there was no evidence of cancer anywhere.
Through all that time nobody thought to find out that I had zero hormones left in my body.  My hormone test came back NORMAL.  Yeah sure, normal for a woman in her 60's.  I now wonder how I was walking around in my feeble condition, hormone-wise.
That is why I bought all the hormone books and decided to take my health into my own hands.  I figured I could live longer under my own care than the guessing game that was going on around me.
The only thing I DID allow the doctors to give me was a water pill and a beta-blocker to lower my elevated blood pressure just in case I had maybe had a small undetectable stroke.
Since starting to dose myself with estradiol gel and progesterone as mentioned above, I have withdrawn, slowly, on my own, from blood pressure pills and only take two kinds of natural diuretics until I get started on registered Wiley Protocol hormones from Health Plus Compounding Pharmacy in San Luis Obispo, which surely will arrive via UPS today, Monday October 2, 2006.
A local Doctor hesitantly agreed to give me a 90 day prescription.  "But don't come back for more." she told me.
I forgive her.  She admitted she hadn't read the book, Sex , Lies and Menopause.  I offered to give her my copy, but she refused.

So don't hesitate to contact www.thewileyprotocol for help.
A 17 pound loss of weight from a chunky uncomfortable 164 lbs to a svelter 147 since June 23, 2005 I ascribe to APPENDIX 1 in  "Sex, Lies and Menopause" and to my reading and rereading, AND putting into Practice T.S. Wiley's, "Lights Out" book.
Help with my hormones, (even though it wasn't the Wiley Protocol, yet) and (even though the gel IS more like a drug),
sleeping at least 9 and 1/2 hours or more every night I am able has give me renewed good feelings and hope of having excellent health in my older, old age.
My highschool sweetheart husband of 46 years is delighted with my sex drive.
He asked me a few months ago, "Are you horny all the time?"
I countered with, "If you mean am I willing to have sex anytime you want, the answer is , YES!"
Thank you T.S.Wiley for all of your research, reading umpteen hundreds of medical and lab reports, speaking every place you can, and writing your helpful and life giving books.  You are a true pioneer.  I love what you have done, are doing and what you and your people are doing for us women and men
Eagerly awaiting your next book about men.

Hormonally Yours,
Good night,
"Lights Out."
Alina
