The Wiley Protocol® is a patent pending method of dosing and delivering bio-mimetic estradiol and progesterone that includes standardization of formulation, compounding procedure and packaging at a recommended retail price. As many as two million women in the U.S. use customized hormones for menopause symptoms. It is the goal of Wiley Systems that any woman in, any city or town, could pick-up her prescription for the Wiley Protocol® and it would be exactly the same as every other woman’s, everywhere else.
We feel that serious medicine such as HRT should be able to bear the same scrutiny as antibiotics or beta-blockers for consistency and be made with the same rigor all life-enhancing/life-threatening Big Pharma drugs are. Right now, the premise one large training institution that wholesales compounding products and equipment has fostered among pharmacists is that compounders “tailor” bio-identical hormones to each woman’s individual needs, leaving the details of each prescription to the doctor and style of compounding at each individual pharmacy. This premise leaves a lot of room for error. While in a perfect world, all compounders would do a scrupulous job, the reality is one government survey of 29 products sampled from compounding pharmacies found that more than a third of the samples failed one or more standard quality tests, including some tests showing the drugs were less potent than promised. For a researcher like Wiley, that’s a nightmare. For Wyeth and the Federal government, it’s an opportunity. |
